Wunderkammer (2025)
Recycled plastic, mortise-and-tenon joint
400×600×1000 (mm)
Wunderkammer examines the histories and values forgotten as plastic replaces traditional materials. It imagines a future in which plastic, once a dominant material, is itself displaced by new alternatives and remains as a medium for craft. Through this reversal, the work invites us to reconsider the technological optimism that equates material replacement with progress.

Wunderkammer, meaning “chamber of wonders,” refers to a collection of rare and unusual objects. The work imagines a future cabinet of curiosities in which once-common plastic remains as an object of preservation and contemplation. Its title reflects an invitation to examine the materials, technologies, and values of an era embodied in plastic.

The work traces plastic’s emergence and dominance, followed by its imagined decline and disappearance, through a sequence of structural tiers. It envisions how plastic, introduced as a substitute for natural materials and adopted throughout everyday life, gradually loses its role to new alternatives. Multiple layers diminish to one and finally to a bare framework, revealing how a material that once defined an era becomes a trace of the past.
